Frog Hollow Press Launches

Next week I will be heading to Toronto for a launch for the chapbooks recently released by Frog Hollow Press. If you’re around on Tuesday, February 28th, come on out to The Steady to hear Andy Verboom, David Huebert, and Carl Watts, as well as myself. 16472980_371445416544338_8364031261661965865_n

Then, on Friday, March 3rd, Frog Hollow leaps to Ottawa for another reading by Carl Watts, Shane Neilson, and Patrick O’Reilly. It’ll be a long week of readings, but I’m gonna try to make them all as unique and interesting as possible. Maybe I’ll have a little handout for those in attendance… who knows!

Upcoming Readings and Forthcoming Chapbook

December is always a busy month filled with family responsibilities, maybe work holiday parties, and unreliable weather to convince you to stay indoors with a warm bevvie. However, I’ll be busy with lots of social responsibilities and poetry readings, starting this coming Thursday and the launch event for Ottawa Arts Review’s new issue. This will be in the back room of the Laurier Social House starting at 7PM. If you miss this, I’ll be reading again at the Pour Boy Pub on December 21st with Marilyn Irwin for the December edition of the Sawdust Reading Series. This is one of my favourite reading series in Ottawa at the moment, featuring a great open-mic and an as-of-yet unnamed contest winner (learn more about the Sawdust Poem-Off contest to win the spot as opening featured reader for Marilyn and me)!

Furthermore, I am extremely excited to announce that my chapbook, Listen, Partisan!, is forthcoming with Frog Hollow Press in Victoria, BC. This came out of the chapbook contest that they held earlier this year, in which my chapbook made the shortlist. I’m grateful to Shane Neilson and Caryl Peters, the editor and publisher at Frog Hollow Press, and on top of ordering the chapbook directly from their website, I’ll have copies for sale at some events later in December and in the new year.

Interview in AngelHousePress’s Podcast

AHP_bw_logo

a.m. kozak and Amanda Earl recently started a podcast about exploring the poetry scene in central Canada. They were kind enough to have me on as a guest for their second episode, where we talked about writing, publishing, and reading both in private and in public. It’s a long episode, so put on your shoes and listen on a big walk, or draw a bath and sit back and relax, and be sure to stay tuned to their podcast as it continues to grow and explore more aspects of Canadian poetry.

Thanks again to a.m. kozak, Amanda Earl, and AngelHousePress for putting this together!

masthead

As announced yesterday on the Twitter account for Frog Hollow Press, my chapbook manuscript, “Listen, Partisan!”, has been shortlisted for the Frog Hollow Press Chapbook Contest! The winner of the contest will be announced next week, but even the shock of getting shortlisted knocked me on my ass! The other manuscripts on the shortlist are:

Daniel Cowper‘s “An Appetite for Time”
Brian Palmu‘s “Sunset Mathematics”
Shaun Robinson‘s “Manmade Clouds”
Carl Watts‘ “Reissue”
Jim Roberts’ “Left Shoulder Voices”
Andy Verboom and David Huebert‘s “Full Mondegreens”
Janice Colbert‘s “Rose and Brine”
Dominique Bernier-Cormier‘s “Scheduled Mist”

Congrats to all the other shortlisted poets, and I hope everyone has as much of a restless-leg week of anticipation as I expect to have! Thanks also to the contest judges and editors at Frog Hollow Press! End of exclamation marks!

If you’ll remember last October, the blUe mOndays reading series (organized by University of Ottawa’s UESA) asked me to be a featured reader for their “Lit or Treat” October reading. Now, as a celebration of their last event of the academic year, blUe mOndays has asked me again to read alongside two truly wonderful and talent local poets—Natalie Hanna and Mia Morgan—both of whom have also been featured readers in the last year.

So, at Café Nostalgica next week on Tuesday, April 19th, I’ll be admiring my co-readers, and everyone is welcome to join me. Find more info and stay up to date with the event here!

Upcoming Reading at The EW Reading Series

Taking a trip to the Big Smoke is always a blast, but this time I’ll be a nervous wreck at the EW Reading Series as I read a couple poems alongside three other supremely talented writers. As it is National Poetry Month, all of the readers this month are poets. If I get my act together, I might try out something strange and I might make a little hand-out… but I shouldn’t get ahead of myself.

The event is taking place at Duffy’s Tavern on Tuesday, April 12th, so keep up to date by following the event here!
